Today, completely out of the blue, I experienced something incredible! As a child I LOVED monkeys, and I secretly wanted one as a pet, but seriously... what parent would sign up for something like that?!?!
So, today, I am taking Zeke to his hearing check up at the ESD. We are sitting at a stoplight in P-Town. I glance over to the truck next to me, and there is an ape in the seat, wearing a flannel shirt and jeans! I happened to be 15 minutes early (not normal for me!), so we pulled in behind the truck to a tree lot. I got out and asked the lady if my kids could see the 'monkey', she corrected me that it was an APE not a monkey. The Ape was so social- he was reaching for me, so I touched his hand. Then he wanted to be held, so I held him. I can't tell you how exhilarating this was for me.... like a lifelong dream come true. What a wild experience today!
The kids LOVED it. Judah hugged him over and over. The Ape kept kissing Hannah's feet, and really wanted to befriend Zeke- he didn't want to touch him (cause his 'hands were dirty'). I loved every second of snuggling with him. He was precious!
He is a federal research animal, and apparently you can not take pictures of a federal research animal (I even had my camera in my pocket!). He looked much like this little one:

Wow! That is increadible. So glad all three of the kids were there to experience it.
The not taking pictures of federal research animals is strange though.
Yeahhhh...glad God made a special moment for you today..and that your kids got to share in it!!! How very, very fun!!! Sweet blessings!
That is CRAZY!! I'm with Zeke...not sure I would have wanted to touch him either;)
Excited for you though!!
That is amazing, that would be such a thrill to hold a monkey...excuse me...an APE!
You are so right that your mother would not have wanted to sign on for that!! I still remember sticking my foot in a shoe that was occupied by YOUR gerbal! Glad the kids got to experience that. Something they won't soon forget either.
Ya should have sneaked a picture... How fun for the whole family! And way to be bold enough to follow the truck and ask to see the ape. Good to know our federal tax dollars are dressing the ape well. What is our deficit?
Oh my gosh!! HOW AWESOME! So fun for you! I love that Zeke wouldnt touch his hand. hahaha.
By the way-- your Christmas tree is gorgeous!
The ape you met was Buck!
I'm almost certain of it ...
Ian has had coffee with him on numerous occasions... in fact - I'm pretty sure we've helped build his trust fund!!
oh the stories we have...
How fun!! I love monkeys (okay, Apes) too! They are always my favorite at the zoo, on TV, or cards...they ALWAYS make me laugh! There isn't anything cuter!!
I love that his name is Buck, too! :)
What an awesome experience for you!! What a brave woman to follow and ask so to see him. Love it!! I want to meet Buck too!
Strange things happen over on your side of the state. I can guarantee you that would never happen in Salem!
What a wonderful, unexpected surprise though.
